As a USRowing Level 2 Certified Coach, I enjoy sharing my passion for rowing and sculling with anyone who has a desire to learn and be on the water.
I started rowing in the late ‘80s on the Cuyahoga River as a student in the Kent State University Rowing Club. After college, my passion for rowing led me to join the Western Reserve Rowing Association (WRRA) where I was very active as a Summer Rowing League Coach and a Committee Member on events like the Row for the Cure, Visually Impaired Rowing, Head of the Cuyahoga and Bow Ball. As President of the Cleveland Rowing Foundation (CRF) in the early 2000s, I helped organize the CRF Board to fundraising efforts for the Boathouse Initiative. I have participated in many coaching and sculling clinics.
Since moving to Denver in 2014, I’ve continued to row with the Rocky Mountain Rowing Club (RMRC), while obtaining a USRowing Level 2 Coach Certification.
RMRC is located in Cherry Creek State Park on Cherry Creek Reservoir. Rowers and scullers can be found on the water at Cherry Creek Reservoir in the early mornings from Spring through Fall. Early mornings are ideal for the sport because that is when the water is most calm, allowing rowers and scullers to find their flow which becomes a meditation in motion.
If you are interested in learning to scull, I provide individual private lessons.
The first lesson begins with a safety briefing - Waiver-PFD-swim requirements, boathouse orientation, dry land instruction and then time on the water. Stroke sequence can be tricky to learn on the water. This is why we’ll start together on an ergometer, progress to a double on the water, then to sculling in a recreational single, with the goal of you sculling in a racing single.
The first introductory Lesson 1 coach's time is FREE. A $2 fee boat and equipment fee is required by RMRC. See below for the Sculling Lesson Plan.
Subsequent lessons through RMRC are $70 per 1-1/2hr (w/$20 to RMRC for use of equipment)-land/water time (weather dependent)
If you are interested in learning to scull, please contact me for availability and appointment times.
Hope to see you on the water soon!
