Program Overview
WHAT IS DVR?
Denver Veterans Rowing (DVR) is a supportive, inclusive rowing program designed for veterans of all abilities, including those participating in para-adaptive rowing.
Our coaching approach combines indoor training and on-water experience to help athletes build strength, confidence, and connection through rowing.
Athletes begin by developing skills on rowing machines in a structured, supportive environment, then progress to on-water rowing as part of a guided seasonal program.

2026 Program Timeline
Indoor to On-Water Progression
Feb – Mar 2026 (Indoor)
Athletes begin with learn-to-row sessions on rowing machines (ergometers) in local gyms and recreation centers.
Focus is placed on building foundational technique, strength, and confidence in a controlled environment.
April 2026 (Season Transition)
Training begins to shift from indoor preparation to on-water readiness.
Athletes are introduced to water safety, equipment, and basic boat handling skills.
May 2026 (On-Water Launch)
The program transitions to Sloan’s Lake with structured on

Pete Gozar leads the program as a US Rowing Level 2 Adaptive / Para Coach with strong private and adaptive training experience.
Co-coach Paul Garland, former US Army Captain and experienced rower, supports winter off-water sessions and spring-summer on-water progression.

PAUL GARLAND
Coaching Assistant | Former US Army Captain
Paul Garland is a former US Army Captain and experienced rower who brings military discipline and leadership to every session. He supports Pete’s coaching programs throughout the year — assisting with winter off-water rowing machine training and spring-summer on-water progression at Sloan’s Lake, Cherry Creek Reservoir, and Stanley Lake.
As a disabled veteran, I was looking for a low-impact sport that still challenged me mentally and physically. Pete introduced me to sculling. His personalized approach patience and years of experience made learning with him worthwhile and enjoyable!
